Ducking low, Jack Haskell avoided the massive roundhouse right from the streetwise Bull Mackey. The heavy set veteran followed up with a swift uppercut. His speed was deceptive, given his meaty physique. Jack managed to step back just in time to avoid that too. Being only sixteen Jack still had some growing to do. He however did not have a bad build at all for his age at 5’9” and 154 lbs, and was no monkey in a fight.

Stepping forward he drove a straight right as hard as he could into Bull’s jaw. The bald headed hard man took the blow without flinching, despite Jacks best effort. His response was a left right combination, but only the left connected Jack, who stumbled back, and hit the back wall of the warehouse before falling to his knees. In flash he was up, shaking his head, his knees like jelly.

Grinning Bull pushed his advantage and advanced on the stunned teen. A savage right cross sent Jack staggering back into the wall and a solid shot to the ribs dropped him again. In pain and in danger of being knocked out cold, Jack stood and fought back drilling Bull with a double left right combination. He opened a cut or two on the leathery tough guys battle scarred face, but still didn’t seem to wobble the big man.

Bull still had a smile on his face as he lined up Jack for the coup de grace. He set him up with a jab that rattled the teenagers teeth and was about to land a devastating overhand right that always put his opponents down.

“Enough!” barked a stern voice and Bull stopped himself. Panting and bleeding Jack leaned against the warehouse wall as a square jawed man with a box cut haircut in his late twenties approached.

“He’s got balls Reilly,” noted Bull, “I’ll give him that.”

Reilly nodded as he sized up the bloodied teen. He was impressed that Bull hadn’t put him down. That was rare. The sixteen year old showed dogged determination and the heart of a warrior.

“He certainly has,” agreed Reilly, the former US Army Ranger and leader of the Reavers.

“So am I in then?” asked Jack as he spat blood from his mouth, his head still full of cotton wool.
